Bringing Grand Oriental Hotel’s old charm back with îlot Colombo cement tiles

Located in Colombo historical center, the Grand Oriental Hotel was built in 1837. îlot Colombo collaborated with Nu Studio architecture firm to bring the Grand Oriental Hotel’s splendour back.

îlot Colombo replicated bespoke cement tiles for the walkway surrounding the heritage building and supplied another design from the Classic Collection for the bar of the hotel.

The original British tiles in the walkway were too damaged by the years and harsh tropical weather conditions to remain. îlot Colombo replicated the pattern and matched the colours of the original tiles.

Architects Nuwan Dias and Dayantha Siriwardene from Nu Studio also used Paris cement tiles for the bar. Paris classic and timeless design in black and white nicely matches the colonial chic style of the heritage hotel and gives depth to the bar shelves.
